April 13 Event- Indigenous Perspectives for Sustaining Healthy Forests

The Shawnigan Basin Society and the BC Coalition Institute are co-hosting a workshop series on “Sustaining Healthy Forests” in the Cowichan region to encourage citizen engagement in advocating for the health of the land. Forestry practices have significant impacts in our communities & on the health of our environment and shared lives. Engaging the First Nations perspective is critical to regaining the health of the land.
This workshop invites respected members of Cowichan Tribes to share indigenous knowledge on forest health and invites Cowichan Valley community members (and beyond) to participate in learning and discussion.

  • Shannon Waters – Stz’uminus Band Member, Medical Health Officer for Cowichan Valley
  • Huyamisé Della Rice-Sylvester – Quw’utsun Elder & Medicine Knowledge Keeper
  • Su-taxwiye Sarah Morales– Quw’utsun member, Fellow of Indigenous Law, AP UVic

    There will also be an opportunity for audience participation.
    The event will be hybrid (in person and Zoom) for accessibility. Everyone welcome.
    Suggested donation $10 per attendee. No one will be turned away for lack of funds.
